Early Life
Morgan Hipworth was born on 21 February 2001 in Australia. He is from Melbourne’s south-east. His father, Mark, is a builder, and his mother, Ellie, works in the fashion industry.
His culinary skills began at seven years old when he fell in love with cooking and baking after watching MasterChef on TV. He started cooking and would experiment in the kitchen to recreate dishes from a cooking reality TV show. He made cakes for family and friends.
In year 10, Morgan wanted a store, but his parents initially said no. They compromised after he saved $55,000 and let him lease a pop-up store on Melbourne’s Chapel Street.
His parents have been instrumental in his early success. His mother accompanied him on delivery runs, while his father helped in a $30,000 five-week renovation of a Windsor shop front.
By 2016, Hipworth had already gotten all the proper council applications and had done three barista courses.
Career
At 13, Morgan Hipworth landed his first big break when a local cafe asked him to be their cake supplier. They tasked him with creating a variety of sweet treats, from chocolate tarts to lemon slices. He began supplying desserts to 20 cafes, with an extra 30-40 venues on his waiting list.
In 2014, Morgan’s Valentine’s Day heart-shaped jam doughnut experiment was a massive success and was in high demand. Soon, he was producing up to 800 doughnuts every weekend.
Hipworth launched a pop-up store and sold 10,000 doughnuts over eight days. In 2016, at 16, he opened his artisan bakery, Bistro Morgan Bakehouse, after saving enough funds.
By 19, Morgan had turned his childhood passion into a million-dollar business. His bakery sold an impressive 5,000 to 10,000 freshly baked goods weekly. Since launching his store, Morgan has sold over a million doughnuts and experimented with 5,000 unique flavors.
In 2023, Hipworth competed in MasterChef Dessert Masters. He has appeared in the season four premiere of Channel 10’s Shark Tank and wowed the show judges with his million-dollar business. He has opened another venue Maven in Brunswick St, Fitzroy, Melbourne.
