Career
Martin Marx, Cloete’s longtime coach, first came across her when she was 13 years old. She received her early training at Lichtenburg High School. She was quickly discovered to have a very strong will, which had made coaching her difficult for other coaches. She received the Order of Ikhamanga in Silver (OIS) in 2003 from South African President Thabo Mbeki in recognition of her outstanding athletic achievements.
In addition to smoking an average of one pack of cigarettes daily, Cloete was also known to enjoy fast food. Before each jump, Cloete did what came naturally: she spun her index fingers around one another, leaned to one side, and visualized every step of her attempt.
After the 2004 Summer Olympics, Cloete retired to devote her time to her family.
