According to various reports, the Cabinet might be advised to shutdown schools across the country due to the ongoing Covid-19 crisis by the National Coronavirus Command Council.

The Unions have been putting the government under pressure to close down schools as there might be a spike in cases in the coming days.

The National Coronavirus Command Council will table the proposed recommendation to Cabinet on Thursday following which either Basic Education Minister or President Cyril Ramaphosa himself is expected to announce Cabinet’s decision. It would most likely turn out to be a three weeks closure of schools.

News24 reached out to department spokesperson Elijah Mhlanga, who said that consultations with stakeholders ahead of the Cabinet meeting which is set to take place on Thursday.
