Christine Ahern is an award-winning Australian reporter. She won one Walkley and two Quills awards for her pandemic coverage in Melbourne.


Ms Ahern carried the family name into journalism and has achieved success. She has covered five Olympics, three Commonwealth Games, and the 2010 FIFA World Cup in South Africa.

After becoming Nine’s US Correspondent, Ahern covered the United Nations in New York.

Early Life


Christine Ahern was born to Mike and Andrea Ahern. She grew up in Caloundra on the Sunshine Coast with her siblings Louise, Claire, John, and Sharon.


Ahern was a Queensland representative swimmer and has always been passionate about sport.


Education


Christine Ahern completed a Bachelor of Arts with a double major in Journalism at the University of Queensland. She bagged the Most Outstanding Journalism Student in Queensland award in her final year.

Christine worked as a researcher for ABC’s Landline program before joining Hobart as a sports reporter/presenter for ABC News.


In 2004, Ahern joined Channel 9 as a sports reporter and presenter in the Melbourne newsroom. She has covered five Olympic games, including Sydney, Athens, Beijing, London, and Rio.

Christine became the Nine Network’s US Correspondent and moved to Los Angeles in 2014. She reported from the United Nations in New York and from Ukraine, covering the MH17 disaster.

Personal Life


Christine Ahern has a nephew, Quinn, who suffered a stroke some years ago. Her sister Sharon is married to Stephen Reibelt.


Her father was a politician who racked up a list of accomplishments during his time in politics. He passed away aged 81 after a battle with cancer.
