Jenny Tian (born 24 July 1995) is an Australian comedian, writer, actress, and YouTuber. She is best known for The PM’s Daughter (2022) and Meet Leila and Ziad (2023).
The female comedian is one of the fastest-rising creatives in the country. She has appeared on Celebrity Letters and Numbers, Triple J, and The Feed.
In 2024, the comedian garnered influence and popularity to enable her to tour Australia with a show, Jenny Tian Chinese Australian. She has toured Perth, Adelaide, Melbourne, Brisbane, Wellington, and Sydney, among other cities.
Early Life
Jenny Tian was born on 24 July 1995 in Finland but grew up in Sydney, Australia. Her parents gave her a name – Jenny- they couldn’t spell. She attended a high school with a pink uniform.
Her parents did not allow her access to the internet as she grew up. They feared she would become like her brother, who developed an addiction to the World of Warcraft.
Education
Jenny Tian holds a double bachelor’s degree in arts and commerce from the University of New South Wales.
Career
Tian first went from gigging to no audience to becoming a TikTok star. Ronny Chieng’s performance at her university inspired her to perform stand-up. She performed to sold-out crowds across Australia in 2023.
The social media star appeared on Celebrity Letters and Numbers, The Feed, and Triple J Hack. She also runs a TikTok series, Coach Dayum!, and co-hosts The Parasocial Social Club podcast alongside Kevin Jin. She has carved a niche on TikTok by creating videos and comedy skits.
Jenny has appeared on ABC Breakfast radio, many episodes of A Rational Fear, and has articles in The Guardian. Yahoo News Australia and The Daily Telegraph have featured her sketches on Instagram and TikTok.
In 2024, Jenny toured cities in Australia, including Perth, Adelaide, Melbourne, Brisbane, and Sydney, with a brand new show called Chinese Australian. It is about her rise to internet stardom. She also had her first international comedy festival.
Tian launched her first show, Picture This, in 2023. She performed her show Chinese Australian: A Tale of Internet Fame at the Wellington Fringe and the Melbourne International Comedy Festival in 2024. She entered season two of the Australian comedy panel game show Taskmaster Australia.
In 2023, Jenny did her first-ever show in London. She is a regular on the Sydney Comedy circuit. She took her solo show to Newcastle Comedy Club in 2022.
