UCT’s vice chancellor is the institution’s chief executive officer, commonly known as the principal. The Vice Chancellor (VC) is in charge of the university’s overarching policy and administration.

Mamokgethi Phakeng is the eighth Vice-Chancellor of the University of Cape Town since it became a university in 1918.
