The Bursary Program of the University of Kwazulu-Natal is geared for students from the medium and lower financial strata who are at risk of not continuing their education. An application from someone whose family earns less than R600 000 per year in household income is considered a prospective candidate.

Successful applicants receive financial support for the costs connected with their degree choice.

Even those who have not yet begun their studies may apply for the scholarship.

The University of Kwazulu-Natal was formed in part through the merging of the University of Natal and the University of Durban-Westville in 2004.

Please note that bursary applications for the UKZN Bursary Programme will close on the 31 of August 2021. Applications received after the closing date will not be considered for the UKZN Bursary Programme.

Applicants who have not received any feedback by the 30th of October should consider their application unsuccessful

About the UKZN Bursary Programme

The University of Kwazulu-Natal Bursary Programme is aimed at students from the missing-middle financial category and lower.  Prospective applicants are those whose families make less than R600 000 per annum in household income.

The financial assistance provided by the bursary programme is used to help pay for the costs associated with the relevant degree chosen by the successful applicant.  Prospective applicants can apply for the bursary, regardless of the degree that they wish to pursue.

UKZN Bursary Requirements & Eligibility

Kindly note that prospective applicants need to satisfy all of the requirements of the University of Kwazulu-Natal Bursary in order to be considered for the programme:

·      Applicants should be registered as full time students at the University for the year ending 2021.

·      Applicants should boast on academic history of at least 65% for the relevant Degree.

·      Applicants should fall in or below the missing-middle financial category.  This is a household income of less than R600 000 per annum.

·      Applicants should not be receiving financial assistance from either the public or private sector.  This includes NSFAS financial assistance.

·      Applicants should have successfully obtained their National Senior Certificate (NSC).

UKZN Bursary Coverage

 The University of Kwazulu-Natal Bursary Programme will provide successful applicants with financial assistance that can be used to help pay for the costs of the relevant  Degree.  This will take the form of:

·      Assistance in paying for the tuition fees.

·      Assistance in paying for the registration fees.

·      Assistance in procuring the relevant course textbooks.

·      Assistance in paying for the accommodation fees.

Please note that funding is not necessarily guaranteed for the UKZN Bursary Programme.  Bursary money is received from sponsors, with bursary amounts varying from sponsor to sponsor.

How to apply for the UKZN Bursary

Kindly note that students applying for the University of Kwazulu-Natal Bursary Programme are required to follow the relevant UKZN online bursary link.

The following supporting documentation should be attached to the applicant’s application form:

●      The applicant should attach a certified copy of their ID certificate.

●      The applicant should provide a certified copy of their National Senior Certificate (NSC).

●      The applicant should provide certified proof of their household’s annual income.

●      The applicant should provide either a marriage, divorce or death certificate of their parent(s) or guardian(s).

●      The applicant should provide their proof of address.
