AgriSETA is a government institution dedicated to educating and training people in the agricultural industry of South Africa to create and promote new opportunities. Because of it, they are responsible for strengthening the workers’ skills, and meeting the industry’s need for labor.
AgriSETA is an agency within the Department of Higher Education and Training responsible for agriculture sector education and training. The group also participates in training and educational programs with other stakeholders in agriculture. It also plays a role in assessing and standardizing training programs relevant to different sectors.
In addition to the various programs, AgriSETA also provides funding for projects, scholarships, internships, apprenticeships, and mentorships.
AgriSETA Discretionary Grant Application 2021/2022
Every year, AgriSETA provides bursaries to a set number of students. Even more precisely, it incentivizes students who study agriculture.
The AgriSETA Discretionary Grant Application is available to both undergraduate and postgraduate students enrolled in agricultural-related programs in the next school year of 2022.
This is the very first project funded through the two-window grant program. After the completion of the first window, the second window will open.
Undergraduate students receive a scholarship worth of R39,750 each year in the first window. The total value for post-undergraduate students is R63,600.
The amount is different for other stakeholders looking for internships, placement, or artisan development. Please refer to the website for more information.
The bursary will cover the tuition cost and textbook. The students are supposed to pay for the rest of the expenses like accommodation and food.
AgriSETA Discretionary Grant Eligibility Criteria
Not everyone studying in the agricultural sector can avail of this bursary. There are eligibility criteria laid out by AgriSETA that all applicants must meet. Failure to do so will result in the cancellation of the application. Due to a high number of students applying for the bursary, AgriSETA may not consider revisions.
The eligibility requirements for AgriSETA bursary 2021-22 are:
- Must be pursuing an undergrad or postgrad degree in the field of agriculture (Degree, diploma, or certificate)
- Must be either studying full-time or part-time long-term courses. Short-term courses are not eligible
- Must be studying at a recognized and accredited college or university in South Africa
- Mustn’t be working or receiving a salary
- Must not be receiving funding from any other bursary or scholarship
Please note that fulfilling all the criteria does not guarantee you’ll receive the funding. AgriSETA mentions that preference will be given to those who are on the Sectoral Priority Occupations list. Whether or not to award the bursary is at the sole discretion of the organization.
