Early Life
Harley Reid was born on 17 April 2005 in Tongala, Victoria, Australia. He comes from a family with strong genes and is a mix of their traits.
His father, Mark, played for the Blues and retired in 2013, while his mother, Vanessa, was a gun netballer. His sisters, Hollie and Jasmin, play A-grade netball. His uncle, Steve, made the Murray Bushrangers squad.
At age 10, Reid played his first under-12s game at Tongala. He was excellent on the field and named ‘best on ground’. The under-14s, short of players in the next game, asked him to join their team.
Reid made the Victorian under-12s, under-15s side, and later under-16s level with Vic Country. He studied at St Joseph’s College in Echuca.
Career
Harley played junior footy for Tongala Football Club, Bendigo Pioneers, and the Victoria Country. By April 2023, his popularity grew, and fans began requesting photos and autographs after a game in Bendigo.
Reid has played for Essendon and Carlton in the VFL. He was the West Coast Eagles’ number-one pick of the 2023 National Draft.
Harley kicked off his AFL journey with the Eagles in Round 1, debuting against Port Adelaide at Adelaide Oval. He won a Rising Star nomination in Round 5 for his performance against Richmond.
Reid impressed again in Round 9 against Collingwood, earning his second Mark of the Year nomination. His running goal out of the center of the ground in the Eagles’ round 10 match against Melbourne earned him a Goal of the Year nomination.
In June 2024, Reid received a two-match suspension for a dangerous tackle on St Kilda’s Darcy Wilson. He then became ineligible for the Rising Star award.
He suffered a late injury scare after producing a stunning highlight during West Coast’s narrow six-point loss to Essendon in July 2024.
