During the American Outdoor Track & Field Championships, Maswanganyi completed the 100m race in 9.87 seconds. However, the time was wind-assisted and would not be recognized as a new South African senior record.He also won gold in the 200m with a wind-assisted time of 19.93 seconds. Additionally, on May 31, 2021, he successfully qualified for the 100m and 200m events for the postponed 2020 Tokyo Olympics.Maswanganyi ran a new 100m personal best time of 9.91s to finish third at the NCAA Championship final in June 2023 in Austin, Texas.
