You can participate in activities that are not generally part of academic life if you join one of the university’s societies. A vibrant campus community provides fresh challenges and opportunities for students.
University of Cape Town (UCT) is home to over a hundred student organizations and societies that represent a wide range of interests and activities.
Students run each organization, and anyone currently enrolled at UCT can join. Many events are held by individual societies on a yearly basis, including the annual general meeting at which the new leadership for the coming year is elected.
In addition to university grants, some societies charge members subscription fees to cover operating costs.
Signing up for a society during orientation week is a great way to meet new people.
The IKhaya Day House
IKhaya Day House is a recently renovated common area that features comfy furnishings and DStv. Between classes, non-resident students can relax in the day home, which is located in Leslie Social Sciences. You’ll be able to get a taste of what your dorm-mates are getting out of university living.
