Everyone knows how thrilling it is to be recognized as one who has beaten a record. The Guinness World Records are very popular and everyone aspires to beat some of them. people around the world hold these records and some of them are South Africa’s.

South Africa is home some who hold big and very weird world records.  We have you the list of top 10 Guinness World Records held by South Africans.

1. Most Consecutive Backwards Handsprings on One-hand

Zama Mofokeng, a talented South African gymnast hols this record. He had a serious hand injury when he was 13. This contributed to his amazing flexibility with which he was able to achieve this feat. He did 34 consecutive backward handsprings on one hand.

2. World’s Largest Gathering of Dogs Wearing Bandannas

This happened in Gauteng’s community. They gathered up to 765 dogs with bandannas on. They beat the record for the largest gathering of dogs wearing bandannas.

3. Biggest Soap Sculpture

This is another weird one. We can now say that amongst other things, South Africa houses the world’s largest bar of soap, as a sculpture anyway. This falls on the list of top 10 Guinness World Records held by South Africans.

4. First Heart Transplant Operation

This happened long ago. The world’s first successful heart transplant happened in Groote Schuur Hospital at Cape Town on the 3rd of December 1967. This operation was performed by Prof. Christian Barnard.

5. Most Lipstick Application in One Hour

Another on the list of top 10 Guinness World Records held by South Africans is the most lipstick application in one hour. This is held by Bertha Le Roux-Wahl. In one hour, she applied her lipstick 535 times.

6. Most Bungee Jumps in One Hour

On May 9, 2003, in Bloukrans River Bridge, South Africa, Veronica Dean performed 19 bungee jumps. She currently holds that record-making her one of the South Africans holding a Guinness world record.

7. Longest Sausage Roll

South Africans also have the record for the longest sausage roll. This was done by bakers of King Pie in Faerie Glen. The sausage roll was 111.11 meters long. This is one of the top 10 Guinness World Records held by South Africans.

8. Most People Blowing a Vuvuzela at the Same Time

Everyone knows the vuvuzela, which became popular during the 2010 world cup in South Africa. Well, South Africans are holding the record for most people blowing it at the same time. It happened during a match between Kaizer Chiefs and Orlando Pirates. It was estimated that about 12,500 people were blowing the vuvuzela at the same time.

9. Most Surfers Riding One Wave

In 2009, a total of 110 surfers rode a wave across the Cape Peninsula in Muizenberg. This is currently one of the top 10 Guinness World Records held by South Africans.

10. Most Snakes Milked

Number 10 in the list of top 10 Guinness World Records held by South Africans is that of most snakes milked. This is one weird and gross one. Bernard Keyter, a supervisor at the South African Institute for Medical Research in Johannesburg reportedly milked 780,000 snakes in over 14 years and he was never bitten.
