Owen began singing when he was still a high school student, but he struggled to gain popularity because he didn’t have the resources to record his songs and came from a lowly family.
However, he attributes his success to the strong financial, spiritual, and emotional support he had from his family, especially from his brother Rufftone and the late gospel musician Kaberere, whom he frequently referred to as his mentor.
Haijalishi, Daddy Owen’s debut album, was released in 2004. In addition to “Mbona,” which he co-wrote with Denno, “Foundation,” “Tobina,” “Kazi ya Msalaba,” “Saluti,” and “System ya Kapungala” are some of his best-known songs.
