Sello developed a deep love for acting at an early age. Throughout his career, he built a vast and impressive portfolio, showcasing his ability to portray various characters. His early stage work included performances in plays such as Street Cleaners (1990), The Awakening (1991), and The Cherry Orchard (1997). One of his most notable stage roles came in The Good Woman of Sharkville (1996), for which he earned a Vita Award nomination for Best Supporting Actor.
Sello’s transition to television came with numerous roles in popular shows, including Isidingo, Generations, Mamello, Soul City, Khululeka, Jozi-H, 90 Plein Street, and the SABC1 mini-series After Nine (2007). He also had international exposure, starring in the Canadian mini-series Human Cargo in 2004 and the British-American series The No. 1 Ladies’ Detective Agency.
Motloung’s film career was equally remarkable. His standout film roles include appearances in Chikin Biznis (1998), Jerusalema (2008), Invictus (2009), Chanda’s Secrets (2010), Zulu Love Letter, and How to Steal 2 Million. His role in Chikin Biznis earned him a nomination for Best Supporting Actor at the M-Net All-Africa Film Awards.
In addition to his television and film success, Sello maintained an extensive theatre career. He performed in numerous productions, including Master Harold and the Boys (1998), Cold Stone Jug (2004), and Socks & Toothpaste (2006).
Prior to the COVID-19 pandemic, he starred in the SABC2 telenovela Lithapo, portraying the character “Thapelo”. However, the pandemic caused a slowdown in the entertainment industry, prompting him to search for new job opportunities. Fortunately, in 2021, he landed a role in the SABC3 telenovela The Estate, playing the character “Elias Nkosi”.
