Education
She matriculated from Zwelibanzi High School in 1990. From 1995-1996 she studied drama at the Durban University of Technology and furthered her tertiary education in 2009 by studying at Movietech Film & Television Production College.
Career
Gcina’s first television acting gig came when she was chosen to play Zinzile, the baby’s nanny on the e.tv soap opera Scandal!, starring Dawn Matthews.
When she became the matriarch of the brand-new Ngema family, who were introduced to the show through her character, she was promoted to the starring cast on the show in 2012.
Zinzile was the character that Gcinile played up until 2022 when her character was eliminated from the programme.
Furthermore, in 2022, she played Vero in the second season of the SABC1 drama series Side Dish. Vero is Amanda’s (Refilwe Madumo) accomplice who aids in her prison break.
After three months, Gcinile Nkosi debuted as KaMabizela in the third season of the Mzansi Magic anthology drama series eHostela. In the role, she plays a widow seeking retribution against the vicious criminal Ngwadi (Siyabonga Thwala), who betrayed and murdered her devoted husband, Mdletshe (Mpumelelo Bhulose).
She was then given Thandiwe Khumalo in the SABC1 drama series The Executives, which debuted on August 7, 2022, giving her another prominent part.
Early in 2023, Gcina’s impressive string of jobs continued when she started portraying Ma’Khumalo, the obstinate wife of Nkosi Cele (Muzi Mthabela) in the SABC1 soap opera Generations: The Legacy.
Soon after, in the Mzansi Magic serial Umkhokha: The Curse, Gcinile was given yet another leading part as MaNzimande.
